Is the San Juan u-12 girls team Nor Cal's best team ever?
Has never lost to any u-12 in Nor Cal
Beat ALL bay area teams. No disrespect. They have some good teams there. Beat So Cal teams, San Diego Surf, Blues, Albion,Slammers, Beach. Colorado state champions too.
Plays tournaments up a year in age group. And wins.
Ranked #1 in the nation for most of the last year.
Only team currently ranked in the top 5 in both rankings.
Won State Cup last year, so far undefeated so far this year.
They have the leading scorer the nation and maybe the best defensive player in the nation also.
Best of all is that they get along so well. Parents too.
Hopefully representing all of Nor Cal soccer the best way possible.
    Just my two cents worth.

    I say this with respect.....

It's a u12(06) team. Looks like first season of 11v11 is this fall! Think about that for second while asking if best nor cal team ever. Even if they beat every team by 5 goals to date, it really means very little when talking about best team in nor cal ever. Do it for the next 6 years, then can join the discussion.

See Force 98, MVLA mercury 90, and CV Mercury 95(best team without question since I've been around)I think it was, San Ramon Ilusion(90ish. Not sure exact year), etc.

Enjoy their success and no need to put labels like that on them. Hopefully they have a good coach who will develop them for long term success as well. It's much more important when their 16. Best of luck!

Thanks for your response. You are correct. A few years down the road will be much more than now. Gotta start somewhere. I gave them that {title} just to get your attention. It worked! I am not familiar with those other teams. If you still remember them they must have been really good and fun to watch. They have been playing 11 v 11 most of the time. When they play down to their age level the field seems SO small. I can see much better. Good luck to your team as well.

One of the things the great teams share is a strong parent group. Its what gets those teams through the times when they do not meet expectations. If you are just a boasting grandpa, that is fine. Hopefully the parent group isn't "Lavar'ing" it (ie. making outlandish statements to draw attention to the team). Setting expectations to an irrational level can lead to irrational behavior.

It's a great team. I guess you want them to be talked about, but one of the issues with 06s is that the age group seems to have a lot less depth than 05. And 07/08 seems to have even less. So what you guys need is more competition in norcal at the same level--i.e., a team where each player can not beat each player on the other team 1v1 at will. Mustang and MVLA are very good, probably the next tier on their own, but (IMO) don't have the sheer athleticism of the SJ group, yet.

In any case, I have to know -- how did you arrive at this conclusion, or is it just hyperbole: "They have the leading scorer the nation and maybe the best defensive player in the nation also."?

And why do you hold back on the poor defensive player? ;) Not to mention the rest of a very talented and athletic team?

Good luck with the rest of your season.

The 06 San Juan team is fantastic... but they aren't winning '05 premier tournaments. That said, I'd say they're (day to day) a Top 10-15 team in the 2005 group and, personally, think the center mid is their best player.

Yep. Mostly just a boasting grampa. No parents saying much at all. Girls neither. No expectations. Just hope and hard work.

I only meant to ask if it might be the best u-12 team. Not best boys or girls team at any age group. Sorry.

You say "you have to know". The very good defensive player is only many peoples opinion. The 2nd leading scorer plays for Texans South. About 20 goals behind the SJ girl. From "Got Soccer"
    Hope this explains a bit.

It does, thanks. I didn't realize Got Soccer kept track of the self-reported goals scored/assists, or that it was a reliable source of information to evaluate players. Very interesting.

It looks like the team will coast into Round 3 of state cup so hopefully you get some challenging matches against some better teams in that round and can come report the highlights.

San Juan 06 pre-ecnl brings 05 ecnl guest players to tournaments and fall league play. I have an issue with this if you are going to call yourself an 06 team. How about 05/06? It is great for recruiting since the average parent looking at their game history will never know and there is no public line up cards.

Why does this even matter? These are 10-11 year old kids! Just enjoy their youth before the years go by.

Why would tournaments/refs allow this? Aren't all registered teams supposed to be age pure based on birth year?

Just grabbing at straws, old man. To make your "best in NorCal" claim, you gotta come up with some Region 2 and Region 3/4 tournament championship wins, not just Region 6 or friggin' Nevada.

The 05 kids are playing in their age group while the 06 kids are playing up. It all sounds within the rules to me. It is great marketing when they win.

I just think if you are going to play up, just take your beating. It is part of the development process. Look at placer 05 gold, they are playing up and they are not winning every fall league but they are still a great team. I definitely know they are not bringing any 04 players to their fall league games.

SJ 06 played that Placer 05 gold team in the Copa Del Rey tournament. SJ lost to Placer 1-0 in sudden death. Great team and a great game. Very fun to watch.

To answer your questions go to Nor Cal soccer "Play up request guidelines. This should explain it to you.
