Basically some so cal teams got mad at Surf, their fields, etc. They decided to start their own event and convinced 10 or so quality clubs to join. Minus the location, it should be a great event. I'm sur college coaches are annoyed everything isn't in the same city now. Can never replace San Diego for Thanksgiving :)

I know a lot of folks were disappointed about the length of the games and hotel stay policies of Surf. Yes I could see it being annoying for the college coaches given the commute. I was surprised at the level of quality clubs they got on such short notice.

You actually think San Diego is nicer than the inland empire ?:p

Surf now has full length games or close. Oceanside complex not what it was when first opened. I'm sure they rent it out all the time and fields get beat up.

I'll take San Diego over most places in California for soccer. Unless there is a tournament in laguna Beach :)

A friend of mine at MVLA poo-pooed Surf this weekend and said "Silverlake is where all the ECNL teams are going now." Looks like that isn't exactly true, but MVLA is taking teams, including their 01 second team (formerly EGSL.)
Many of the same college coaches on the list as those going to surf - not sure how they can be two places at once. Surf still has a more extensive list of college coaches.

Just did a quick look at schedules. Is Silverlakes really full games? Does anyone think that playing 2x games/day over consecutive days is a good thing at the HS level? Hard to have an invitational tournament w/o multiple games/day but shortened games seem necessary to protect the kids from overuse (a lot of orthos believe that leg muscle fatigue is a big contributor to ACL tears).

Looks like Surf is structured as a Showcase for the HS age teams - 1 game/day. Not nearly as taxing on the field players.

(I have no kid participating in either of these events)

Glad to be corrected - I saw Eagles twice in one U15G flight but did not check the entire notation. Thanks, @edsoccer

I guess Surf had to cancel today's matches due to field conditions. Silverlakes ought to get a few more coaches for today. Should help them going forward. Of course the GDA is going to impact showcases going forward quite a bit.

My daughter was at Surf guest playing. Really disappointed that today's game was cancelled, since teams were only playing 3 as it was. Does Southern Cal just fall apart with a little rain? She said it was much worse with rain at Davis last weekend and they managed to complete all the NPL showcase games.
Other than that she was very happy with her experience. College coaches were lining the sidelines at her games and at least half of the 10-12 coaches she emailed came to see her play. Don't know where any of it will lead but it seems to have lit a fire for her.

I feel terrible for any Hawaiian that went to surf and to last years odp championship. The same thing happened but worse as
    Most games were canceled.

Most coaches leave on Sunday and thank goodness for longer games!!!
