Looks like De Anza and Placer are the teams to beat.
Can't count out west coast and from Mustang results same to say about West Valley and CV earthquakes
I agree, more so with WV. Coincidently, Force beat both teams at Surf, showing good possession in each.
State Cup will be interesting.... I agree that DeAnza is the favorite on paper, but at Surf DeAnza did beat both WV and CV, but I think both games were in overtime. Meaning it could have went either way in either game. West Coast is always a tough game for anyone and then of course there are those sleeper teams that people are forgetting about..... Cal Alliance, Odyssey, Mustang etc... We will see what happens.
Very close matches at Surf, but neither the CV or WV games went to OT. The final against Seattle did. These matches can go either way, with very contrasting styles, with DeAnza less physical, more passing. WV/DeAnza tied at Mustang, where WV pulled all the way back to cut off passing lanes and look for the quick counter. It all depends on the how the flow of the game develops on any given day. Interesting, especially since DeAnza is relatively new on the scene here.
Mustang isn't playing State cup they are opting to play Cal North
Actually the CV game did go overtime with De Anza scoring in the second overtime with 2 minutes left.
Correction... CV lost with 3 minutes left in the second overtime in the semis.
DeAnza isn't relatively new on the scene, but they are new on the scene with this team that is made up of two or three different clubs.
Oops, you guys are right. I got second hand info! And yes, this Force team is relatively new, so it will be interesting to see how far they can progress.
They are a good team and should fare well.
They should fare well since a lot of them are the 02 PDP team plus 1 Santa Rosa girl, they make teams chase the chicken with their backline except Mustang Fusion !
Does anyone have insight into why the Red 1: (1-32) Round 2 brackets were recently changed? The Round 2 brackets and schedules had been posted last week and now it looks like most of the brackets have changed. What's going on?
There were 2 teams who hadn't entered scores. I assume that's why there was a shift.
I watched them get shuffled around a few times. Is there any logic or format to 2nd round brackets?
This is from the website (link):
Each division, Red, White, Blue and Green, is divided into an upper division and a lower division. Below is how the 2nd round divisions are created based on the number of team in each division for the 1st round.
Teams are ranking in the 2nd round base on the following criteria:
1. Placement within your Flight (IE-1 st,2nd,3rd or 4th)
2. Use your original ranking for actual placement for the next round.
a. team that was original ranked 9th and finish 3rd in the flight would be ranked higher than a team ranked original ranked 36 and finish 3rd in the flight, even though this team had more points.
b. 2 teams finish 1st in their flight. One team has 9 points the other team has 7 points. It is possible for the team with 7 points to be ranked higher if that team was ranked higher in the original ranking.
Then the rankings are usually used in a serpentine fashion to fill out the brackets. But what actually happened is hard to verify based on the current brackets...unless I misunderstood it.
I got this off the website
4.5 - Re-Rank
2 Round (U9-U13) based on the re-ranking. The following criteria is used for the re-rank: 1.! Group Stage Placement (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th)
2.! Initial State Cup Ranking
So it looks like if you were ranked 1 in your bracket and won your bracket your ranking stayed the same but if you were ranked 1 and finished 2nd your ranking fell.
Yes. That is my understanding as well. However, once the re-rankings are established, then what? It doesn't seem like the brackets were filled out using the re-ranking and the normal method. Or they were last week and then changed this week??
It's really hard to tell what method they really use especially with the new 3 point system. I wish they would change state cup all the way around. Have all the top teams actually play each other and not get "an easy bracket" or lucky etc.
This is how the brackets should look like based on their rules. Norcal also change teams to different brackets to reduce travel in that first second round game.
