    No surprises:

Stanford 3-0 -watched their game on live stream. Thought they looked decent but certainly much better than other teams I watched. It's hard not to be successful when you have a team full of national players. Looks like a another final 8 for them at the very least.

CAL 3-1 - they look better. Let's hope Neil can win in the post season. until then Ratcliffe is the man and Neil is second best.

    Pretenders:

UC Davis 2-2 - after their best season ever Davis is slated to come in last. Heard some girls decommitted and Davis also dropped a verbal so I'm not sure what's going on. The rumor is Twila is hard to play for so we will see if it takes its toll on their success on the field.

St. Mary's 0-4 - looks like they are back to their losing ways. I chimed in before on their head scratching recruiting and it appears something isn't quite right early. Maybe they can convince Ratcliffe to come back????

Pacific 0-2 - Well with a new coach hopefully they can double their 2015 season by winning 2 games. Until they physically move UOP to Silicon Valley I don't think they will ever be any good or attract top level recruits.

    Jury Out:
Santa Clara 2-2 - nice win over CAL but a return to the NCAAs after being shut out last year is a must.

USF 2-2 - they were shut out of the NCAAs last year and really should have got in. They can't lose more than 5 games if they want to have a chance again.

kid from De Anza (2017) that is now going to UCSB. Heard another kid there broke her verbal to UCSB for another place. The article was in top drawer.

Give Travis Clarque at St. Mary's a little more time. He has only had the job just over a year and he's still working with Kai's recruits. If you look at his track record, he's turned a lot of losing programs around relatively quickly.

Agree with you about USF. They should have made the tourney last year.

Also agree with your take on Cal. Too many first round NCAA tourney exits.

Let's look at Clarkes D2 record.

2015 5-10-3 (new coach with Clarkes recruits)

    2014 14-4
    2013 12-7-4
    2012 9-7
    2011 9-6-3
    2010 9-8
    2009 10-8

    2008 - 10-5 (before he got there)
    2007 - 8-8-4

Clarke concluded his sixth season as the head coach at Cal State San Bernardino, where he led the Coyotes to a 63-40-13 record and a 46-34-10 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
In 2006, Clarke became the first ever head women’s soccer coach at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo. He spent three seasons with the Vulcans, compiling a 29-27-1 record that included 25 wins in his final two years.

Conclusion- he made a big improvement in 2014 but really he's been average throughout the years. I think the Sonoma State or Chico State coaches have better results IMO.

Oh yeah this is pretty much a girls message board so you don't have to say "Women's" college soccer

Again, it's year 1. You could argue that until your hand chosen recruits are all in and playing your brand of soccer, the 4-6 year in mark is about right.

Totally agree speed. Hard to know.

I'm being hard on him. But 0-4 is not good especially when he hasn't made it to the WCC schedule yet.

St Mary's in WCC is challenging to get to .500. Nice school but not exactly an area girls from all over California want to flock to. Their previous coach had them moving in the right direction and got let go for whatever reason. I imagine it'll be a struggle there for awhile. .500 ball at most. Best of luck to their new coach. Stanford certainly the class of Nor Cal but what else is new.

I have been able to watch Cal twice in person and Stanford once. I like what I see from both. Cal dominated the games against Cal Poly and Portland even if the scores were not big. And but for Florida's GK having a sensational game, Stanford would have one that game going away. Stanford's starting lineup last Friday was the most surprising part of these three games - 3 Frosh and 4 Sophs, if memory serves. Alana Cook is incredible and Ceci Gee played with the composure of a Junior or Senior.

(How about that men's game between the Gaels and #1 Cardinal? St. Mary's has a 2-0 lead and are playing with a man advantage with 15 mins left before giving up 2 goals. I'm guessing both teams left Cagan quite frustrated with the result)

Santa Clara (2-2-1) has to settle for the 1-1 draw in double overtime vs. Marquette (2-3-1). After starting the season 2-0 beating Cal and USC, these last 3 matches are head scratchers. Anybody see this game? Santa Clara hosts Wisconsin on Sunday.

St. Mary's (0-4) at Hawaii playing in the Outrigger Soccer Classic this weekend. Hawaii is undefeated this season and looking pretty good. St. Mary's needs to rally and try and pull out a win. Clarque tends to play his upper class more than the youngers. Maybe it's time to switch things up and give some of his hand picked recruits (freshmen) some more time on the pitch. Sunday's game is vs. the Idaho Vandals whom UH already beat 2-0 so maybe a chance for St. Mary's win on Sunday?

USF (2-2) travels to Missouri (3-1). Missouri tied UNC 1-1 in an exhibition game so not sure how much credit to give there. Missouri just beat University of Colorado 2-1 (which isn't saying much). Not sure what to call here but I'm going out on a limb and giving the edge to USF since we know players on the team.

Stanford (4-0) edges Wisconsin 2-1. Marquette up next. Should be another win.

Cal (3-1) vs. #15 Texas Tech. This will be a true test of Cal's mettle and position in the Pac 12. UCLA just beat TT last week so if Cal plans on challenging for a Pac 12 title and tournament birth, this is a match they need to show up for.

I think Clark is trying to gain loyalty from his upper classman. They are down to Hawaii 1-0 in the 74th minute. 0-5 regardless of whose recruits you have is not good.

Santa Clara used to be a soccer power. The WCC will be tough so you really need a winning record going into the season.

Yeah, SMC not looking so good. If they lose to Idaho on Sunday then things are really looking dire. I still think Clarque deserves more time but the optics aren't good and team morale may become an issue as well.

As for Santa Clara, how do they beat Cal & USC and then lay two and a half eggs on the next three?

Official, Hawaii 1-0 over St Mary's. 0-5 ouch. If he lose to Idaho he has CAL next. They could be 0-7 soon.
I do believe they get the tie at Idaho and go to 1-6-1. They will have to win vs. SAC state and DAVIS before entering the WCC.

Santa Clara. Whoa. maybe Jerry needs to soften the schedule.

santa clara tied today to draw to 2-2-2.

St. Mary's and programs like DAVIS, UOP, USF need a Special coach to be successful. An average coach ends up doing his/her 5 years and out.

I know it's possible. St. Mary's has Randy Bennet and before then Ernie Kent. Bennet found nice pipeline thru Australia to produce two NBA players.

@ECNL any more info on the Davis situation? very concerning that players have decommitted and a verbal commit was dropped.

Last Saturday's loss to Freno State in the 89th minute probably won't help...
