All of the Saturday game at ECNL New Jersey were cancelled Saturday due to wet fields. It's not clear if Sunday's games will be cancelled too. I was curious how cancelled games are recorded. At first I thought all would be recorded as a 0-0 tie but then I realized that could lower a teams PPG. Some teams are on the very cusp of making it into the playoffs via a Wildcard, and all games are included (Conference and National Events) when calculating PPG. A team who didn't go to PDA could have an advantage over a team would did go and they get 1, possibly 2 games recorded as a tie. It seems the only fair thing would be to not count those games at all. After all, they aren't "games played".

This isn't necessarily an ECNL question, it could apply to other tournaments. Just curious if anyone knows what happens in those circumstances. It would be such a bummer if a team on the cusp lost their first game, the only game they got to play. So much money!

Nevermind, I answered my own question with some simple googling (which I should have done before posting). The ECNL guidelines state:

"In the event that games are cancelled pursuant to this Rule 3.4, the ECNL Board of Directors may alter the method by which ECNL standings are determined for impacted age groups, or the qualification process for the ECNL Play offs or ECNL Finals for impacted age groups. Any ECNL Competition that reaches half-time before being cancelled shall be considered a completed game."

Thats a bummer they had to cancel it. I remember last year they canceled a game because of lightning. Thing that sucked was kids lost out on game and money. It would be only fair if ECNL/DA or whoever to pay clubs back a little bit. But it goes against the bottom line. lol

Wow, I didn't know they had to cancel a game last year too. Seems a bit iffy to schedule a tournament on the East Coast (or midwest for that matter) in May-June-ish. Always thunderstorms. I would think maybe fall? That is one nice thing about California, weather usually isn't an issue.
