Grass but typically very thick grass. Haven't been there for about a year but can't imagine it's changed much since the city runs the facility.

The sports park has been a big complaint of why many college coaches don't find the event quality how it was back in the day. This is why in my opinion Davis is the best showcase in Nor Cal these days. Beautiful surface on their 16 grass field complex.

Not sure, with a decent breeze, that Davis is any hotter than Pleasanton... and that Sportpark is absolute trash. Long grass... sloped fields... baseball infields... might be the Worst of the Worst.

Davis was a ice venue. Last time I saw it it that wasn’t grass, more like dead grass and dirt.
The wind however was horrible. But at least there at lots of fields that are flat!

One would think they would take better care of their fields.

Clearly you weren't in Davis this past weekend :)

It was warm. About 96 on the high end. Never too windy where it made a big difference. At least in my kids games but our latest I believe was a 3pm start.

The fields were near perfect. Whoever takes care of them, did a great job in the last month. It's the top complex in Nor Cal hands down.

Now, parking flow in and out. That's a different story!

My whole point, I don't understand why Rage wouldn't put the DA/ECNL division at Val Vista. I'm sure college coaches would appreciate it.

I think this is great opportunity for Marin to become an "elite" club by leveraging the ECNL status to concentrate talented players in and around SF and North Bay. It surely would be easier commute to MVLA or SRU or even Mustang for the players I heard had made the ECNL teams at these other clubs but of course stayed with Marin FC once they heard the news.

Looking forward to the 2019-20 season!

Looks like the DA/ECNL "division" at this weekend's RAGE College Showcase is more of an experiment or sideshow. The games aren't even listed in the master schedule: https://events.gotsport.com/events/default.aspx?EventID=71948 -- there are plenty of games (mostly with RAGE teams, of course, on 1 side) at Val Vista. I don't see any games at Patelco fields though -- they under repair?

The DA/ECNL games are more showcase format rather than championship-which makes a lot of sense given the teams that are in it. The thing I like about tourney's like this and Davis is that it's real games. Surfcup is what, 20 minutes halfs??? okay it may be 25 minutes. Surf is overrated in my opinion as someone told me that it's 1300 a team to participate. That's a lot of apples...Go Rage and put on a good showcase!

I hope Rage puts on a good event and gets back to being one of the best events/showcases in Nor Cal.

Surf Summer is only 35 min for the older weekend. I'm guessing it's that numbers because it's a tournament format. Surf Thanksgiving is pure showcase and play 40 min halves with no true tournament format. The Youngers for surf is short though. 30's and 25's for 08 and below. That's hard for nor cal teams spending lots of money. Like any of the big so cal tournaments, it's about total experience and not just soccer aspect too.

The sports park is in the best shape I many years and the weather is perfect.
About 40-50 less teams this year due to competition and lack of good surfaces.
That’s a 40 to 50k decrease In profits in Blin’s last year as DOC.

Rage show case can be improved. Need to go for quality first.
Changes I think should be examined:

    1) reduce games played to one game per day and increase game time to 80 minutes instead of 60.

    2) keep the ECNL/da showcase division and limit it in size but allow different ages to play against each other. That was fun to watch despite the surface.

    3) predetermine 2 games then allow TOP finishing teams to play each other, U16 to U17 only. Play these games on Sunday at cal vista at 730am to 1pm. Allow DOC and a team to determine this.

    4) all U15 and U19 games at sports park.

    4) all da/ECNL games at patelco on Friday 730am to 2pm. Then supercells a fantastic catered meal at sports park at 2pm.

Got to do things different to make rage showcase great again.

I was at the Rage Showcase this weekend and I have to say I thought the fields at Sportspark were beautiful, the turf was definitely a bit too long, but beautiful none the less. I had never been to the park before and I was very happy with the amount of shade. The amount of parking was great even if you had to walk a bit to your field. I do like your recommendations to improve the showcase.

    Get to experience it.
