Like I said it my last post, it was a boring game, but an even one, I agree. I think our girls were feeling the pressure to win from the parents in that one. We were also guilty of banging the ball around and I don't like that at all.

Yes, Ajax are similar, but they don't try to play like EG does, they just bang the ball forward.

That is why we didn't do any play dates after the first one. The fields were like 55x35 and these teams were just blasting the ball long all game. It wasn't good soccer at all and it was a big waste of time. Teams playing to "win" the play date instead of using it for what it was intended for.

I am from Sou Cal and saw several of these teams play at the Blues Cup, Slammers and Mustang last year. Juventus Sole Black was the best of them. They beat some good teams last year at Blues. Every game they won at Blues was against teams that made it to the knock out rounds and one as far as the QF's before falling short to the Blues who were a semi finalist in Southern Cal's President State Cup.

Did thy win State Cup in Northern Cal, any link on where to find the results?

Yes. They won. (9-0, 51 GF, 3 GA) The links for the three rounds for the 2013 results are on the page below. Pick the top bracket for each link.

Should be interesting to see how Mustang and Juventus perform down at Surf Cup in a month.

I might be a little more concerned with the lack of offense in that tournament. Only 1 goal in the last 3 games. That isn't a good sign for a top 5 team in NorCal??

That post was for Star. Has the offense picked up since Davis?

I wasn't buying the 6 goal loss to San Juan, until I watched it happen to Brazil today. Guess it can happen once in a while.

I see that Ajax plays the ball side to side as well as playing the ball back to their keeper.

It can, I can share the notes of that game with you if you want...

As far as the rankings, it's all very silly to be ranking and re-ranking these U9/U10 teams. Some teams are playing to win and some are playing to develop, so the results may not always be an indicator of who the better teams are. My point was to the person that said BSC we didn't even belong in the top 10 anymore. Really? We have two balanced teams that finished 1st and 3rd in the fall league, we beat Mustang to finish 5th in NorCal Cup, we lose to Mustang in the Final of Davis, then put our best players all on one team and we no longer belong in the top 10? There is too much focus on rankings and winning.

Rankings we can argue, our goal scoring record is hard to dispute. We always score a lot of goals. We didn't score a lot in Davis, but it wasn't from a lack of creating chances...We were a bit rusty, but check our events...we score goals.

Hey, I heard San Juan lost one of their most creative one on one offensive players. Is that true? And if so, where did she end up?

My daughter plays for another comp team, but I did reach out to my friend who has a daughter on San Juan. He said he doesn't know anything about his daughters team losing a player. He said one player hurt her ankle a few weeks ago, but she is back and practicing. He said if they did....the team has not been notified.

There was a player that had some stuff going on, aside from the player with the ankle injury, but I've heard she's back full time now with no plans to go anywhere else.

"As far as the rankings, it's all very silly to be ranking and re-ranking these U9/U10 teams."
Well, it does promote posts, such as yours, that may introduce coaching/training philosophies that are different from what others are experiencing. That's a very good thing.

"There is too much focus on rankings and winning."
For people with the propensity to focus too much on rankings and winning, the underlying source will exist whether or not someone posts rankings. But, again, I think it brings up a good opportunity to discuss things such as player development philosophy and how it relates to the continuum between playing games to develop players vs. playing to win.

Rankings and winning go hand and hand. You can win games and develop players at the same time. Players want to win and be on the best team. If you think rankings do not matter at this age your kidding yourself. How else are you going to know what to gauge your development after? You need to win in order to get your team promoted to the top level i.e. Premier/Gold. These rankings are pretty accurate. What do you think the outcome of a game between Juventus and lets say San Ramon Azuri? The score would be 10-0 plus. Not to say San Ramon is not a good team but Juventus has continued to win, develop, and add more quality players. That is why they are ranked #1. Got Soccer already had them ranked last year because they played up. There is a lot of money we are forking out for competitive soccer and the best players are going to want to play on the best teams even at U9. If you think your kid is just going to walk on to one of these top teams at U11 from a development club outside the top 25, it is not going to happen. Each of these top teams have a pool of players from there 2nd and 3rd teams that can pull from. The competition is pretty fierce right now as far as I can see and have witnessed. The recruiting is even starting sooner now which adds pressure to these clubs to develop and win at an early age. Rankings are a good thing as it allows for competitive games and gives players something to shoot for.

When someone says that rankings are silly and winning doesn't matter to them, and then talks about how their kid's team should be ranked higher based on the quality of their wins...it means that rankings and wins matter a lot to them. They are just using the conversation to explain why their kid's team didn't perform up to someone's expectations.

Norcal ranks this age group to help with State Cup bracketing. They publish/re-rank multiple times to help "get it right".
