I agree with Scotty Boy. There are so many variables at this age. My top 5 by the end of Sept:

    Juventus
    Navy
    Stars
    San Juan
    Ajax

I can't wait to see USA Stars again. My daughter's team beat them just a month ago and they were lost. I want to know if that victory over Ajax last weekend was the real deal. Because if it was, somebody has done a marvelous job coaching the last 4 weeks.

Sporting Green lost in Penalty Kicks to MVLA in their own tournament final. I'll be interested to see how they perform at Mustang. They appear to be in the most balanced group with San Juan, Benfica and Burlingame. I could see 4 teams at 1-1-1 in that group.

The Stars receive quality training from AJ. It's a good little academy and Joe, you do a great job keeping people talking about them.

These seedings are just a carryover from a tournament 9 months ago.

The first week is a carry over from State Cup. Coaches and DOC's send in ranking info after the first week. This is the 3rd week

Yes, I understand that they are being adjusted slowly week to week in preparation for this years NorCal State Cup rankings. But for now, they may not be too accurate. They are very similar to how things ended 9 months ago. If people really want to know how the teams are ranked, the list one of the parents put out is much more accurate (except they forgot to add the Stars somewhere around #10).

The rankings are close to what there were after NorCal Cup. Of course there are some changes, but you can't drop us (BSC Star 04G Gold) down to #7. The only teams you can put above us are Juvenus, Manteca and Rage. Rage and Manteca barely beat us and that was before we consolidated our two teams into a 1st and 2nd team. We beat Mustang 1-0 in a game where they were a little better (NorCal Cup Final) and they beat us 1-0 in a game where we were better (Davis Clasico Final). Our consolidated Gold team will train together for the first time starting next week. They played a couple tournaments together in spring, but were still training with their own teams. We can only get better. There are a lot of good teams out there and Mustang Stampede will be tough, as we are in the group of death, but we are looking forward to it. Good luck to everyone.

What happened at Davis in the San Juan game? The score was surprising.

USA Stars have improved but I still have them outside the top 15 until they can show more consistency as a team. The Mustang tournament will give us an idea on where they are truly at.

Mustang is much better from a year ago as evident in 2014 tournaments, play dates, and Spring league. San Juan trounced Burlingame 6-0 back in May and just won the Cal Cup. Elk Grove has been playing very well of late. Burlingame will have their chance to prove themselves in the Stampede tournament with a rematch against San Juan and Manteca.

Wait a minute... my daughter's team played Burlingame in Davis and I didn't see anything special. Solid team... capable of beating or losing to most anyone there on any given day. In fact, I spit my milk out when I saw Santa Rosa ranked over Ajax. In fact, my daughter's team is ranked higher than Ajax here and she's never beaten them in 3 or 4 matches. Rankings are fun... but accurate this early?

The fact is, as I see it, it's way too early to put all your chips into the rankings because I've seen most teams with a Jekyll & Hyde side on any given match.

That was a tough one. A learning experience for the girls. I think we played at 9:30am and 2:30pm that day and it was very hot. Our girls were excited to be together for the first time and they couldn't sit still between games. They are 9 year olds...they still want to have fun. Anyways, they were running around in the sun, playing etc. despite the parents trying to keep them under the canopy resting. Contrast that to San Juan players who probably took the 15 minutes drive home with the AC on, had a shower and a nap, probably relaxed on the couch to rest up for the next game...We fell behind early on a couple mistakes and the wheels came off. It happens, looking forward to playing them again. In my opinion, San Juan is ranked way too low. They should be at around #6 0r #7 and even higher if they start winning more consistency. Even though they beat us in Davis they weren't in the final because they lost their other games. They were in with Juventus in the NorCal Cup, which is why they finished outside the top 8. If they had been in another group, they would have gone further. Outside of Juventus, I think they are the best team we have played. They are very similar to us in the way that they play.

I would agree that the 6-0 was an abnormal result, but the SJ players hung around the same sunshine you guys did. We sat next to them. For that matter, all the 9-year olds did.

Beating EG is saying something... no matter who you are. That's a strong team. But getting trounced by SJ helps validate my point. In a given match, it's terribly unpredictable. Our team beat San Juan, played them evenly, and got our butts kicked. So many variables at this age. Sometimes, too, if you have an especially tough first match... it's difficult to rally back for afternoon games. Or maybe a key player doesn't perform. Goalkeeper has a bad day. So many possibilities.

I didn't think Mustang was that much better than when we beat them back in November, not that they weren't good back then. I don't know if you saw the Davis Clasico Final, but after their early goal, we were all over them. They were just barely hanging on. It was a good game though a completely reversal of our Cup game. I hope we get to play them again at Stampede. It's too bad that there will be no semifinals...

you are right, hard to predict 9 year olds. All I know, is our girls struggled with the heat. We don't get that in Burlingame...

Elk Grove is good, I know the coach wasn't happy, but that is how it goes. We scored two late goals to snatch that one. I like that they try to play from the back, but you have to let the kids make decisions. I don't like telling players that they absolutely have to roll the ball out to the wide backs every time. We play from the back too, but just approach it a little differently. We just bring full pressure on teams like that. If I remember, both of their goals were scored by their two big girls from outside the box. Outside of that, they didn't do much. Our first two goals were scored off nice crosses with tap-ins at the far post and a long throw-in that was misplayed in the box in the last minute.

Yep... EG can hurt you with those longer shots. They're a bit like Ajax... you know what they're going to do but stopping it is a challenge because they're disciplined and have some athletes. Basically just try to keep the ball away from you. Seems like the coach has finally let the keeper just punt if you load the box area and take away that ability to play from the back.

We were your first game on Sunday. 1-0 and I don't think either of us played particularly well... though the match was fairly even.

I'm looking forward to the next couple of weekends.

That was an ugly game...no offence, but your team just blasts the ball high and deep every single time and it makes for a very unpleasant viewing experience. Our girls even started doing it that game. I couldn't believe it. I was not happy about it. It was my least favorite game of the weekend and that includes getting beat by San Juan 6-0. San Juan played good soccer and they were fun to watch. Elk Grove played good soccer and the game was exciting and fun to watch, the final against Mustang was exciting and fun to watch. Watching the Blues blast the ball as far as they can every single time was boring, but I agree that we didn't show anything special that game other than it was a must win to reach the final.

Hmmm... can't say that I agree we're a kickball team. We do sometimes play with a single forward and that lends itself to looking for breakaways, but I guess we just see it differently.

Must be doing something right... one of us was able to beat San Juan. :woot:
