Looks like the SJEQ, Placer, San Juan, MVLA, and West Coast 1st teams are all playing elsewhere rather than U13 Youth Premier League -- doesn't seem to be NPL, so perhaps U14 YPL?

The preliminary Region 2 Premier division for U13 YPL looks a bit crowded with 12 teams. By comparison, Region 3/4/5 has only 6 teams, and Region 6 has only 7 teams.

Fragmentation will get worse next year when RAGE, Mustang, Santa Rosa, and Davis 1st teams move to ECNL in addition to SJEQ, Thorns, Lamorinda, et al moving to GDA.

SJEQ qualified for NPL U14 a week or so ago.

After the dust has settled at Surf Cup and Mustang Stampede during the past couple of weekends, 8 out of the top 10 NorCal teams are either ECNL or GDA: https://youthsoccerrankings.us/rankings/CAN/13/Girls/ -- it's really too bad that the teams will need to travel farther and more frequently to play competitive games.

But then that's probably the only way for the top 5 teams (3 of which are GDA, 1 ECNL) to "develop."

I didn't think ECNL and DA came into play for the 05 age group until next year.

I heard ECNL would be starting at U13 (2005) this year. The Pre-DA teams like SJEQ and Placer are playing up in 04, so maybe they'll get more competitive games locally that way. My point is that the top teams at these GDA and ECNL clubs in NorCal will not be facing each other much, if at all, from here going forward though they might meet just once in the State Cup playoffs.

From what I understand, there will be a local ECNL schedule at u13 this year that won't include any travel outside of northern CA.

Speaking of Surf Cup, pretty solid showing by those participating NorCal 05s.

Doesn't look to me like ECNL and DA teams have to travel that far to find competitive games.

Something other than college soccer and Elk Grove.

Fall league starts this weekend. Mustang v. Santa Rosa looks like one of the best openers. MVLA v. Force North perhaps another to watch. Where's San Juan ECNL? Looks like West Coast and Placer to terrorize u14s. Let the fun begin.

I thought SJ would be playing up in U14, but I don't see them in the schedule.

Mustang vs. SR should be a close game, but I'd predict that that MVLA will win by 2 GD vs. Force North.

Earthquakes 05's? They should be in '04 NPL. They play Palo Alto today.

SJ = San Juan. SJEQ or EQ = Earthquakes. :)

Saw the EQ05 team play couple weekends ago. Their players definitely got some size (and great passing and spacing, too) to compete well playing up in U14 NPL. I'm looking forward to seeing them play vs. Placer 05 in GDA league.

What's the latest with the 05 age group? Two months in - Mustang off to a great start, leading NW ECNL standings. Rage has reloaded, atop NorCal Region 3/4/5. Santa Rosa still plays great, despite some roster changes. San Juan looks tough, although limited sample. Always like MVLA. Then you've got West Coast, Thorns, Placer, and EQ playing an age group up - and successful. State Cup should be super competitive, fun as all these teams run into one another.

Having seen just bits of the Earthquakes, I'd put them at #2. I believe Thorns is the best team in NorCal.

Unless Thorns got some upgrades between Surf Cup and now, I'd put them no higher than #3 behind SJEQ and Placer.

No upsets for the Top 8-12 teams so far in State Cup State/Premier Round 1. Will be interesting how Round 2 gets bracketed. I hope the Top 8 teams (based on https://youthsoccerrankings.us/rankings/CAN/13/Girls/) get evenly distributed.

I would say that SJ ECNL losing to Placer's b-team to be a bit of an upset.

Good catch! I'd agree that it's a major upset _if_ SJ ECNL had their full team for the game.

    Agreed.

As usual, brackets differ widely in competitiveness. You have brackets with teams ranked number 4, 12, 16, and 24 (SJ ECNL, Blues, Union Sac, Placer black) or number 7, 13, 22, 41 (mustang ecnl, diablo, lamorinda, impact)

and then you have others with

rankings number 25, 57, 85, 90 (SF United, MVLA white, SF aftershocks, LFC IAA)

Yeah, rankings aren't always accurate and upsets do happen (look at Placer Black vs SJ ECNL), but that is a huge disparity that suggests that even with the pots and all the work they do to even it out, there is a HUGE component of "luck of the draw."

Looks like SJEQ and Placer are on collision course to meet up in final match for Placer Cup today. Should be fun to watch.
