The board is pretty quiet. Just wanted to start a new thread to get updates on how the 05 teams are doing. Seems like the 05's are competitive age group. We have strong teams:

    Thorns
    Quakes
    Placer
    Rage
    WC
    MVLA
    San Juan

What teams are making a good showing so far?

The 05's are a stronger age group and its hard to believe there's not a lot chatter going on. Since Surf I've been seeing come really good teams play soccer in the Bay Area. I do believe Socal has a leg up on us but we are hanging in there. Teams are starting to catch up to those more big, fast, and athletic players in the past so the level of play is balancing out. I said this 2 years ago and I'm starting to see the skills and coaching is becoming a huge factor in game results. MLVA, Thorns and Quakes will have good coaching but moving forward your going to see a shift in team results. To answer your question I think Rage, Thorns and I will throwing in Quakes for now are leading the group. Thats 1 ECNL team vs 2 DA teams. Again its early. Local teams are looking strong though.

SJ Quakes will continue to drop in the rankings because so many of their best players are rostered U15.

Are these SJEQ NT players all defenders? 0-6 loss is quite a blowout.

And they recently (Sep 9th) lost 0-2 to San Juan.

I wonder how the rest of the players/parents on SJEQ will feel if the losses continue. Was the team so dependent on the few NT players?

SJ Quakes have only one player that plays up with the U15 and she deserves to play up. So its the same team with a few stronger additions.

There are at least 2 that I know of, with certainty and without naming girls, and I'm not aware of either playing with the NT. This Quakes team is not the same team that was dominant last season. Maybe they're still moving the roster around.

According to the published U15-DA roster only one 05 is playing up. But to be fair, the NPL EQ team is not the 2005 Academy team that lost 0:1 to Thorns Academy to kick off the season. What is surprising is that the 05 EQ DA team has only 12 full time players rostered as FT players -- at least 2 of whom are new to the program post-tryouts. Where did all of their 05s from last year's team go? Demoted to their struggling 05 NPL team?

Why don't they just bring some U13s up to the U14 team and try to be competitive?

It’s the same team but added stronger players and will call up 3/4 NPL players to fill out the roster I would guess. Quakes played well but Thorns added some new additions too. Game could have went either way but I believe Thorns are well coached and disciplined team. Wish we could play them since were ECNL.

This was the 05 NPL Quakes team. None of the girls rostered full time on a DA team are permitted to play NPL. I believe there are 13 05's that are rostered on DA teams. Remember the days when the top teams in NorCal were all allowed to play each other?

Makes sense... feels like a different team... not as strong but I like the way they play.

What is confusing is that the link on gotsoccer lists the SJEQ NPL team as the same team that made it to the DA semi's at Surfcup. I guess they don't need the DA team to have a gotsoccer page anymore so they just moved it over to the NPL team?

The now DA kids earned all those got soccer points but since it's the same club, no need to change anything on got soccer. I guess good for other teams who will get points for beating a different team.

Never again! God forbid teams have to compete with other teams at similar level close by :) I think there should be a DA vs ECNL pre-season event. Good competition in most cases and watching the parents nervous during the games would be even better!

There is a pre-season event like that, but not a local one. The Silverlakes Summer Showcase had about a 50/50 split between ECNL and DA teams in their top brackets. It was fun watching the teams from the two leagues go head to head. Made things very interesting.

It seems that the ECNL teams play both ECNL league and NPL, while the DA teams only play DA. The DA clubs have their #2 teams playing NPL. The 05 Quakes and Thorns always seem to have good battles wtih the Thorns winning the most recent. I think Quakes top 05 player actually plays up on the 16/17 team because the 04 team is pretty full. It is unfortunate US Soccer has done what they have in the last 2 years as there are some really fun games to be had in Northern CA.

After looking at the schedule for both DA and ECNL for G05, I'm super happy that my child plays NPL. Seriously, travel to Utah and Portland and San Diego for league weekend games with your 13 year old? When we have some of the best teams in the country here in the greater bay area and Sacramento? Additionally, my daughter has played against Thorns DA team 2 times in the last 4 months and several ECNL teams. I do think the SJEQ team she played was the NPL team at National Cup. The only ECNL teams that I don't see on her schedule for this year are Davis and MVLA. How in the world does US Soccer think that traveling that much as a 13 year old would benefit them more than simply spending the extra time kicking the ball against a wall, which from the stories I read is what most of the top pros did a lot of at this age. I guess I could see how it maybe makes sense when you don't have competition near by, but then traveling to tournaments makes sense where the kids at least get several games for the trip.

I totally hear what you're saying and completely agree to an extent. In the end, it really depends on what your'e daughter really wants out of soccer AND can you afford it. But if your daughter is a high level player playing in an ECNL or DA platform (depending on the club) will only help her cause. No where else will they get the exposure than if they do play in these platforms-not even close. ECNL has 3-4 national showcases all over the country that will a) get your daughter exposure (if she want to play at a higher level in college), play against arguably the best (or better) competition in the nation, and have fun seeing other parts of the country while she's at it. In the Girls DA, in my opinion, isn't worth it all unless she is serious about wanting to get national exposure. Both platforms serve two purposes as per each website. College exposure and national team platform.

The thing I do like about both is that they DON'T play 5 games in a weekend but only 1 per day. I'm not sure if you played organized sports, but playing 5-6 games in a 3 day period takes it's toll on a kids body....and you wonder why there's such a high injury rate in soccer. Not too much rest. A lot of the local clubs that advanced far ONLY got about a month off the entire year. ECNL kids played HS and DA kids (a lot of them) trained...again, I think it's what your kid wants is what's most important. ;)

OMG! I drove down to DeAnza college this morning to see my buddy's team play. His daughter plays for 05 San Diego Surf. There a solid team but OMG Thorns 05's are LEGIT! They play some really nice soccer and even my buddy was blown away and was amazed at there style of play. I knew they were good but even Surf parents were shaking the head saying wow. He was telling be they beat Thorns 5-1 last they played which was 6 months ago but didn't expect to get beat 3-0. Surf played very well but Thorns just was patient and took what Surf gave them and capitalized. Way to go Thorns keep up the good work. Does anybody know if Thorns picked up some additional players from the area? Just curious!

They have one forward who is dominating and making the recent difference in my opinion.
