which teams are looking good in the 03s?
this group (u13 last year) was sort of 02 heavy last year with Vision Academy (state cup champ) - which is now an 02 team, so it's wide open. Placer and Deanza look strong from last year, but MVLA, Santa Rosa, and San Juan ECNL teams are very solid as well. Watch out for Ajax too. No one from this group did anything significant at Surf.
Over here in NPL 1 East....Placer and Davis look tops, even though I have not seen Placer this year yet but my sources say they are good. Davis moves the ball well. Ajax looks good, pretty big girls and some good balance. Central Cal Soccer Alliance's results haven't been bad (have not see them yet either). Its good that Ajax and CCSA were thrown in the NPL East bracket to add some more good teams. Elk Grove can put up a fight with anyone on a good day, they are a piece or two from the next level. Union is unbalanced, they can defend well but no push up top. Diablo is ok as well. I have not seen or had feedback on Walnut Creek or Pleasanton.
Force looks strong...
I agree I heard now that Andres has taken over the team the girls are starting to play up to their ability. I want to see DeAnza and placer play.
MVLA 03's beat Force 4-1 in the Mustang semis a couple of weeks ago.
You correct but unless you were at the game the score does not reflect how the game was played. DeAnza controlled the game had 3 times more shots then Mvla but Mvla finished its chances and without that goalie from Mvla (she's real good ) the game should have been 6-4. My DD plays for Mustang 03 we beat DeAnza 4-1 in spring league but they improved and they beat us 2-0 at Stampede. There style of play has changed 180 degrees from spring to now since getting the new coach.
My picks on top teams are Mvla, DeAnza and Placer. With Ajax a close 4th
And without Lebron, the Warriors would've won their second straight NBA championship. He's real good, too.
Ha funny, but Must65 has a point -- the teams that play pure possession will often not win games early in the season (or ever at younger ages). It takes a while for things to click. It sounds like they are being "reprogrammed" and typically coaches start from the back and move up with finishing last. I'm guessing DeAnza is moving in that direction if they controlled the game and had lots of shots. My money is on them -- maybe not this fall, but next year for certain.
MVLA is not standing still either. Many of this 03 team come from Erin Montoya's 03/04 group from last year. Her pure-04 team just won Surf, so this is no fluke. Her 2nd 03 team won Mustang Gold, as well, so there is depth in the MVLA '03 program.
Top 4 qualify for spring Champions League in the east and west brackets, reading everyones feedback here and from what I have seen from the some of the west bracket teams it sounds like MVLA, Force, and Santa Rosa will go 1-2-3 (not necessarily in that order). Who has the best chance for the 4th and final CL spot in the west?
In the east my guess would be Placer goes 1st....after that Davis, Ajax, Pleasanton, CCSA, and Walnut Creek beat up on each other for 2-3-4 spots
I like MVLA 03 too. They are looking very good. Their 04 team surprised me with the win.
I haven't seen all the teams play but Ajax and Cen Cal Alliance are both very good. Both teams are solid 1-16. Fit and well coached to boot.
One thing I notice with Force is that these younger teams, 02/03/04, can be unpredictable, which I believe in part is due to roster manipulation. There are a few strong 02 and 03 players that are double rostered, and normally play up. So, in high visibility league games, e.g. Against MVLA, Mustang, they bring those players down and do well. That strategy doesn't work when all 3 age groups are at the same tournament, like at the Stampede. Those players stayed with their normal 02 team, and won. The 03 team did well, no doubt, but lost in the semi, without their best 03 finisher.
This roster manipulation is something that has frustrated MVLA, and they've made this known. They could easily play this game with 2 or 3 '02 players that are playing up, but don't, and instead intentionally avoid league play with Force.
That 03 player your talking about only played in one 03 tournament which was Surf because her 02 team played the week before. She never plays in any 03 Npl, ecnl or state cup games.
What is the problem with youngers playing up I think it's good for them to gain the experience against bigger and faster players.
Agreed, it's fantastic for players to play up for development. The only problem I see is in trying to compare any two teams from week to week. As a rule, Force will stack a team to win a game. Nothing wrong with that, while other clubs opt not to. It's all cool, just need to take that into account.
By the way, thanks for sharing this, because it exactly confirms what I described. So, if the Mustang 02,03 groups had been on separate weekends this 03 player might have played in both groups and the semifinal outcome different (although I believe MVLA would have still won...)
As far as not playing in 03 NPL, let's wait and see the 03 Force roster on 22 October, when the league title could be on the line. The season hasn't even started, really.
Southbay if your trying to say that Mvla does not have players that play up in age and then come back and play in there own age I need to call your bluff. Albertin has been doing the same thing since his lightening teams and does the same on his 01 and 02 teams. If you want I can confirm that next time I have dinner with him.
To me if your child can play both ages the experience is good for them. my Daughter use to play for west coast and now for mustang and they both allow girls to play up. And your right you don't know who you play from week to week but I see it as a challange for my daughter . Honestly I don't see the problem it's not like they have older players lying about their ages and playing down . Lol
Excellent reply, because that's exactly what I'm saying. Please ask Albertin how often he brings his 02 players down, and how he feels about the way Force manages their rosters. And let us know.
Mustang 4-1 rage
San Juan 6-2 Santa Rosa
DeAnza 2-0 Mvla
Hey "region6connected" what's up with San Juan that's a nice win for them.
